Fuwa Fuwa x Suteki

The origins of this article dates back to late 2022, when Suteki Developments’ founder, Jonas Hibo, reached out asking for tips on how to jumpstart his digital marketing efforts. Suteki Developments was growing — and growing fast at that. He filled me in on some of the minor details that came with running an architectural firm in midwestern Canada. I remember then being quite enthralled by it all, for this was no small feat.

Calgary finds itself at a unique point at its growth as a major city in 2023. A recent article published by the City of Calgary’s Boardroom states:

The first five months of 2023 have marked a strong and promising start for Calgary’s development and construction industry. There were 4,846 total building permits issued between January and April 2023 and while building permit volumes have decreased by 14 per cent from this time last year, total construction value has seen an increase of six per cent year-over-year, with a total value of $1.7 billion in construction value so far in 2023.

For Suteki to flourish in the midst of a worldwide inflation crisis, there had to be factors at play here — ones that I knew I had to find out for myself. So after running around the same social circles for so long, Jonas finally invited me to personally see a current project he was working on at the time.

Fuwa-Fuwa Site Visit

Fuwa Fuwa is a popular Canadian restaurant that serves artisanal, Japanese-style pancakes. Its origins date back to early 2018, when it launched its maiden store in the Greater Toronto Area. Their handcrafted dishes are a unique take to what some would consider a North American staple, but with the highly sophisticated texture that is emblematic to East Asian cuisine.

Situated within Chinook Plaza and straddling Macleod Trail, this latest Fuwa Fuwa branch would be the third one in the city of Calgary. Coincidentally, all three branches were designed by Suteki Developments.

On our initial visit, I can easily see that this current branch is in a prime location, what with it being situated in front of the popular CF Chinook Centre. Its proximity to the C-Train makes it accessible to most pedestrians, and the Plaza’s ample parking lot also a welcome plus for such a busy area.
